20 Mobile Games to Play When You’re Bored on the Bus

When you’ve got an app like Tummoc to make your commutes easier, you can have time to be bored on the bus! There’s a lot that you can do to pass the time! You can listen to some music, or maybe a podcast. You could watch a movie or tv show. Or you could also play a game!

Granted, there’s personal preference involved while picking a game. So, here’s a mixed bag of 20 mobile games (in no particular order) that you can play while commuting:

The concept of the game is supposed to be a play on the classic joke “Why did the chicken cross the road?”. The objective of this arcade game is for your character to cross a series of paths, avoiding all obstacles. You can also collect coins, and use them to unlock different characters.

2. Good Pizza, Great Pizza – Do you love pizza? Well, you probably can’t get any while commuting! So, instead, play ‘Good Pizza, Great Pizza’! This cooking simulation game allows you to run your own pizza shop. Make sure you get pizzas out to customers in time and keep levelling up. Your objective is not only to keep your pizzeria open but also to help the business flourish. You can upgrade to new toppings, new equipment and more!

3. Call of Duty – One of the world’s most popular first-person shooter (FPS) games now has a great mobile version. The game gained a lot of popularity during the pandemic, and it’s still going strong. You can play different modes like Capture the Flag, Frontline, Kill Confirmed and Battle Royale too. Make sure you have enough storage on your phone because it takes a lot of space. But, if you love FPS games, then it’s worth it!

4. Pokémon Go – This Augmented Reality (AR) game has been popular since the time it was first released back in 2016. Your goal is to find, capture and train Pokémon.  Pokémon are characters from the original show and video games. You can find them in the real world using your phone. They’re like virtual creatures. After training them, you can get them to battle with other Pokémon. If you’ve ever watched the show or played video games, you know what we’re talking about. Since the game involves a lot of moving around, it’s great to play while commuting. Just make sure to do it while sitting or standing in one place. Don’t try crossing roads or walking through traffic while playing!

5. 2048 – Your goal is to get the number 2048. You start with two tiles each with the number 2 on them. As you move them together, the tiles will start to multiply and the number doubles. If you fill-up the entire board with tiles, it’s game over. It’s a game of strategy and mathematics. It’s a fun puzzle that you can play over and over.

 6. Alto’s Adventure –  Another endless game, but this time you’re snowboarding through scenic scapes. The visuals of this game are gorgeous and very calming. Snowboard your way through these gorgeous backdrops while completing tasks, levelling up and avoiding obstacles. Alto’s Adventure is both a work of art and a fun video game, at the same time.

7. Candy Crush Saga – This is a game everyone knows, and most of us have played at some point. Straightforward, yet addictive. It’s great to play even if have a lot going on around you. It’s a puzzle game in which you have to match similar pieces of candy. With almost 10000 levels to play, you can keep going. They’ve added different challenges and tweaks to shake things up a bit.

8. Pocket City – As the name suggests, you have a pocket in your city. It’s a format we’ve seen in different forms — but somehow we can’t get enough of it. You’re the mayor of your city, and you have to build it. Build homes, parks, schools, and more. You have quests to complete, and when you do you can level up. The development of this city is in your hands — the sky is the limit!

9. Fun Run 3 – This is a quick game that you can play with friends or online. It’s a race between four characters. First to the finish line, wins. But, the catch is that each character has different power-ups and attacks that they can use to either slow others down or speed themselves up. As you level up, you get access to more characters and power-ups.

10. 8 Ball Pool – Classic pool, but at your fingertips! This game by Miniclip has maintained popularity for years now. You can play 8-ball and 9-ball. You get to choose different locations to play in. Depending on the location, your bet and your winnings change. As you level up, you get access to different cue sticks, rewards, and locations to play in. Quick, fun, and addictive!

11. Subway Surfers – You’re a surfer, and you’re surfing on subway trains and tracks. Well, you’re a graffiti artist, and you’re surfing on subways to escape trouble after being caught tagging. This one’s another endless game that can keep occupied endlessly. Similar concept to Temple Run, but you’re on a surfboard. The game uses different locations as inspiration for their maps. Recently, they launched the Mumbai map. Tricky turns, jumps, and obstacles can get you, so be careful!

13. Among UsA game of betrayal and lots of fun. You’re on a spaceship with 4-15 crewmates. Among you, there is an imposter. Either you find the imposter, or the imposter finds you. And we all know what happens if the imposter finds you. If you haven’t played it, you’ve heard of it. Or you’ve at least seen the iconic Among Us characters. Although the game was released in 2018, it gained popularity in 2020.

15. Garena Free Fire – A game of survival that will keep you glued to your (bus) seat. Don’t play it if you’re reaching your destination soon. Don’t play it if you’re standing, of course. This battle royale game throws you on a remote island along with 49 others. Do what you must to be the last to survive. It’s a game of strategy and adventure.

16. Mini Militia – Doodle Army 2Fun to play with friends on a local server or even online! You can always identify when someone’s playing this game from the familiar tiny animated screams. This 2D game is all about survival. You’ve got many weapons at your disposal, and grenades coming at you from all directions. 17. Hill Climb Racing – As the name suggests, you’ve got to race up that hill. The fun of this game is the physics involved with uphill racing. It’s addictive and doesn’t require too much strategy. 18. Carrom Pool – Classic carrom, but on your phone! It’s a game that most of us have played growing up. A game we’ve played with friends and family alike. 19. Color Switch – This colourful game is simple and addictive. You have a ball. Tap on the ball to avoid an obstacle. You need to follow a pattern of colours to do so. It’s a game that requires some amount of strategy, but a lot of patience. Unlock new balls, levels and modes as you keep playing.

20. Tiny Room Stories: Town Mystery – This one’s for those who have an inner Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew. You play the role of a private detective. You receive a letter from your father asking for your help. Once you reach your home town, you can’t find a soul. And that’s where the fun begins! Find clues, solve puzzles and do what it takes to figure out what happened.
